Legal Victory Against The Estate of Diego Maradona

We are proud to announce that the Florida Third District Court of Appeal has affirmed the complete dismissal of all claims brought by the estate of Diego Armando Maradona against our client, Claudia Villafañe.

This highly publicized case, originally filed in Miami in 2015, alleged financial misconduct and sought over $2 million in damages. After years of litigation and scrutiny, the appellate court confirmed what we have asserted from day one, no theft occurred, the claims were unfounded, the evidence was nonexistent, and the case was time-barred.

In today’s 14-page decision, authored by Judge Kevin Emas, and joined by Judges Monica Gordo and Fleur Lobree, the appellate court affirmed the 2023 ruling by Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Carlos Lopez, in favor of Villafañe on all counts.

Villafañe, represented by Paula Aguila of MPA LAW, maintained her innocence throughout the protracted litigation. “This ruling brings long-overdue clarity and justice to a case based on allegations that were never supported by facts or evidence—there was no audit, no theft, and no basis for these claims,” said Paula Aguila, counsel for Villafañe. “My client is relieved that, after years of litigation and public scrutiny, the courts have once again affirmed her innocence and rejected the Maradona estate’s unfounded accusations.” Aguila added.
